On Monday 23 of August my dad (Geoff) came to Pukeokahu school to show us how to use a compass and its degrees an easier way of saying it is orienteering.
Here’s what we did first, as soon as we walked out of the school doors we saw a big drawn out compass.

At each letter there was a cone and under the cones there were degrees like n is 0 degrees e is 90 degrees s is 180 degrees and last but not least w is 270 degrees.

Then we got into groups and had to go to the tennis court and draw our own compasses .

I suppose you could say we cheated by using a compass to draw a compass.

We also had to figure out how many degrees it is from the school tennis court to Aorangi and Puke hill.

We noticed that where you were standing changed the degrees so if you were standing in the middle of the court it would be different to at the back of the court or the front of the court.

Once we had done that we needed to do a course to see how well we had done.

We had to go round to lots of places. First we had to start with our backs against the old school.

Then we had to go to a tree on the side of the playground then across the field to another tree but this one was round by where we normally make huts. I ran most of the paces. After that tree we went to a fence line next to a heap of trees. The third to last stop was the gate into grasshopper land. Then we went back to the place we normally make huts to a different tree then ran back to where we started but this plate said end. So then we ran inside to figure out the jumbled word. It turns out the elephants favourite sport was SQUASH. Funny eh! By Grace

Blake Marshall was the best tackler and the best runner and the guy who got most of our tries and if we had a player of the day It would of been Blake. I had so much fun at the sevens and I hope to do it next year when I’m at a different school.

In the rugby 7s we had one bye, two losses, one win and two ties. The first game we lost, the second game we won, the third game we tied, the fourth game we tied and we lost the last. We played Raetihi TAS Hunterville St Jos and Marton. TAS was very easy to beat. I had fun. It was a good day. Go on my blog to see some photos – look for the name Tristin. Click the name Tristin and you will see the photos. Please leave a comment.

On the 5th of August we went to the rugby 7s we won one we lost two had one bye and came a tie twice. The Hunterville kids were pretty good and fast. We came a tie with Saint Josephs and We Nailed T.a.s! They were a bit littler than us though. The grand stand was stuffed with gear bags and rugby stuff. Matoroa came up and cheered us. At the end there were free posters down the bottom. I got one!

I thought the rugby 7s was a great opportunity for all beginning players it was the all for the fun and learning. the teams we faced were hard fast and some even played in gumboots. We won 3 games and a rare try against tas-A. after the whole thing my legs were so sore T-T. I want to say thank you to Mataroa for letting me and the other seniors play in there team we all had a great time. :)

By Max

Dodging left and right we weaved our way through the gaps to try and score our next try. Trying not to knock the ball forward or get tackled. Trying to off load the ball before smack. only one way to go if you want to win forwards not backwards driving the ruck forwards recovering the ball from every tackle and the game repeats itself. It was hard but we had truck loads of fun, thank you Mataroa for having us for your games.

On Thursday the 5Th of august there was a torment called the rugby sevens. There was a huge crowd in the Taihape grand stand. Our team all got our tops on and headed down to the Field 7. we won one, lost 2 had one by, then drew 2. It was so fun maybe next year more of Taihape will decided to join the rugby sevens. I think that everyone would enjoy it!, that is if you tried it and like mud and bring some rugby boots a drink of Powerade long socks short black and white shorts and the first aid kit.
