Here at Pukeokahu School we use a whole range of different 21st Century Learning Tools to enhance student learning and teaching. This series of Pages is dedicated to informing our community about each of these tools, why we use them and how YOU too can use them.
I will begin this series by explaining about the Pukeokahu School Website.
The Pukeokahu School Website is a WordPress.org blog. Now “What is a blog?” I can hear you say … well basically a blog is an online log or diary. This means that every time something of interest happens here at school or in the community, I add an entry to this online diary. The advantages of this style of website compared to a normal static website is that our website is constantly changing and evolving. Also a blog is a lot easier to manage and up-date than a traditional site once it has been set up – anyone can do it!
Now I am a big fan of the saying – “A picture is worth a thousand words” therefore a movie must be worth at least a million. So below in a very good video, made by Common Craft, explaining what blogging is in plain english.
NOTE: The Pukeokahu Student ePortfolios are also blogs which are hosted by Edublogs.org. Edublogs is a subsidiary of WordPress which has been created solely for the purpose of Education.
If you are interested in creating your own blog you can check out my How-To site here.
