From Marama

It is so nice to be back in Pukeokahu, I had forgotten how noisy and busy it is in town at night.  Especially with your two year old nephew kindly smooches you awake nice and early every morning (an additional reward for Aunty Maama for WINNING the Conference Quiz Night yesss!).
As I mentioned in the last newsletter, the students were at Winiata Marae, on Thursday, for a Community Matariki Celebration.  They tell me that they had a wonderful time and learnt a lot about Matariki and other traditional Maori customs.
Unfortunately, not all of the children managed to finish their Taratahi (kites) that were begun at the Marae.  So we were really lucky to have Jerome Kavanagh come out, on Tuesday, and give our students a hand to finish off their Taratahi.  You can read all about it and see the photos on our school website.

Pow Wow Evening – Next Evening 14th June

Another lovely evening ladies, didn’t Susan do a wonderful job as tea lady?  We had a change of venue this week, my place, which I am pleased to say worked well.  My table managed to fit six sewing machines around it!  Remember all are welcome to join us on these evenings, bring along a project or join in with our Christmas Stocking.  See you there!

Horse Trek DVDs Available $20 Each

Brian Megaw has done a fabulous job creating the Pukeokahu Horsetrek 2010 DVD.  See beautiful scenic shots of the trek as well as video interviews with the organisers and riders.  I am defiantly going to have to learn to ride so that I can go next year!  If you would like a copy, please contact Maryanne 388 0327.
