From Marama
Hi all. The kids had a rather nerve racking day yesterday. Three weeks ago I had set the students “The Five Slide Challenge”. Each child prepared a slideshow presentation, about a chosen topic, using a maximum of five slides with no more than five words per. slide. Well yesterday was presentation day, and as you know any form of public speaking can be very scary! Though in hindsight, I don’t know why they were all so worried because they all did so well.
Having survived this practise run, the students are very keen to invite you all to come be their audience for the “real thing”. So get your diaries out and pencil in Friday 2nd July, Pukeokahu School as the place to be! The students and I will nut out the nitty gritty details next week and we will have the full details in next weeks newsletter.
Ladies Pot Luck Dinner – Thursday 24th June
We will be having a welcome for Amanda at Kaiangaroa and a farewell for Sue Pye. This will be held at Tina’s place at 7.30pm. If you have any queries please phone Tina on 388 1787.
For Sale – Foxy Puppies
Three male, black & white – 6 weeks old Phone Tina 3881787
Friday – Art
Carol is away on Friday so Shona Gordon will be teaching for the day. Shona has asked if the kids could each bring a cardboard cereal box or something similar on Friday for screen printing. It might also be a good idea to have old clothes or an art shirt on Friday as well.
Blokes Night Out – Thursday 17th June @ 6.30pm
Now you must admit that when one of your student’s parents rings and asks for your husband rather than yourself you have to be a little bit suspicious. And when your husband has a grin on his face when he hangs up, you definitely know that something is up! So what’s up is a “Blokes” night out down at the Lodge. There will be Dinner and Drinks (wine and cheese maybe?) from 6.30pm onwards. If you have any queries please contact Jock 388 1807 (Chief Conspirator) or Geoff 388 0327(Deputy).
Pow Wow Evening
This coming Monday at the school house. All are welcome. Join in on the group project or bring your own.
Pukeokahu School Camp to Auckland
Just a reminder that these need to be returned to school by tomorrow, Friday 11th June.
Wanted Old Tidy Curtains
We are have a bit of trouble seeing the projector on our whiteboard with the glare through the windows. Does anyone have any old tidy curtains that they could donate to the school. They need at least a two meter drop. They do not need to be thermal backed.

Tips For Learning
I was reading a teachers’ magazine (A Women’s Teacher’s Day? but without the Hot Gossip
the other day, which suggested adding a ‘Tips for Learning At Home’ section to your school newsletter. Well, I thought that was a wonderful idea so here we are with tip number one:
Bake Your Teacher Cookies For Learning
Cooking with your child is a wonderful way to learn about measurement and fractions (“We need 100 grams of butter and a whole block is 500 grams. What fraction of the butter will we need?”). Also reading, planning and following a procedure are very good skills to practise (“what do we do first? Is there anything we need to prepare before hand?”). Of course there is always the important virtue of Sharing the cookies with your teacher afterwards. This, with her daily dose of coffee, will ensure a happy and productive learning environment.
Ka kite ano,
Marama and Carol
