From Marama
Teachers College aspires to prepare you for your career as a teacher. You learn how to take reading and maths lessons. How to manage groups, set up classrooms and plan engaging learning, however not once was it ever mentioned how to remove the smell of fresh spew from your classroom cloakbay …
Let me take you back a step, we had spent a lovely morning at the Taihape Town Hall checking out the wonderful art created by our local Taihape Schools. On the way back, all was well for the land of small children in the back of Carol’s car until, only minutes away from school, one of her dear little passengers went “pop!”. Fortunately the incident was isolated to the child’s knees and seatbelt.
I hear you all say, “mmm yes, ‘tis the price of living some distance out of town, did I ever tell you about the time my …”, well hang on my story isn’t finished yet! Not moments after, I with my bundle of children also arrived back at school (one or two looking slightly pale but still intact). In my naivety, I thought that the sharing of stomach content was over for the day; ‘O how wrong I was.
Not milliseconds had passed before one of my merry band, who had by that time entered our cloakbay and seen and smelt the aforementioned mess, promptly matched that mess with his own offering.
Now I ask you Teachers College, what do you do? What do you do with nine children trapped a small, thin space, with stomach content abounding? With three more children rapidly turning a lighter shade of green and the rest excitedly squawking as they inspect the discharge with the intense interests of mad scientists? Come on Teachers College … what do you do?
