From Marama

Hi everybody, and welcome back from a (hopefully) refreshing, yet slightly chilly break.  I couldn’t believe it, on the second Monday of the school holidays, when I saw large sheets of ice floating on the school pool!  Now that’s cold!
Cody and I had a lovely time up in Auckland, during the first week of the break, checking out activities and transport for our school camp.  The Auckland Zoo was fantastic, I can’t wait to take the school there.
The Pukeokahu School children were all ready to go on Monday morning, so I guess it is now time for the Mums and Dads to have a little break themselves ;-)
Now if you are wondering why Pukeokahu School is a bit quite in the middle of the week, it is because our Year Seven and Eight are back at PTP at TAS and on Wednesdays two of our students are part of the St Joseph’s Ski Team!  Lucky kids!  (Back in my day … we walked to school ten miles in bare feet through the snow everyday and never got to go Skiing!  mutter, mutter, grumble, grumble! ;-) )

What’s On This Term

This term is going to be a very busy one with lots to fit in before we all troop off to Auckland.  Our theme this term is Claymation: Bringing Stories to Life!  The students have been split into three small production groups and will produce their own Claymation Film (Wallace and Gromit Style Animation) before the end of the term.  So watch this space for the date of our film premiere afternoon.

A Little Bit of Help

This term we are studying measurement, map making, and directions for maths.  I was wondering if there were any keen hunters/trampers out there in our community who would be keen to come in and set up a small orientation course for us and to teach the kids how to use a compass and a map.  I would try to do this myself, but they would probably all end up lost and stuck on top of Pukeokahu Hill.  If you or a couple of you are keen, please give me a call at school or send me an email.  We would really appreciate it.

Pow Wow – Monday 2nd August @7pm

Our next meeting will be at the school house in two weeks.  All are welcome and we look forward to seeing you there.
